Supporters
We’d like to thank:
- Everyone who voted for Merton Legacy Fund Option C: Projects that will breathe new life into Merton’s public spaces. Option C won the vote, and we look forward to working with Merton Council on finalising funding of £70,000 which will go towards the redevelopment of the Cedar Space in the park.
- All The Friends of Cannizaro Park, whose subscriptions fund park projects and whose interest and support sustain our volunteers.
- Our donors, whose generosity enables us to deliver improvements for the park. We recorded over £30,000 in donations this year from our partners and donors. Almost £12,000 of this was for planting of trees, shrubs and plants, including over £4,000 from our first ever advent calendar themed plant sponsorship. Of particular note are a donor who match-funded the repairs to the fountain so that we can enjoy the ‘teapot’ fountain in all its glory; and two donors who between them have offered to entirely fund a major renovation of the toilets, allowing a much appreciated facility to stay open.
- We were able to generate an additional £4,000 thanks to the valuable Gift Aid declarations made by Friends and Donors.
- Aquamaintain, Reddington Ground Works, Cube Consulting and The South East Rivers Trust for their partnership in delivering the Environment Agency Natural Flood Management funded pond project that will help alleviate flooding both in the park and in downstream Beverley Brook.
- Merton Green Spaces team for their unwavering support and partnership on the above pond project, including entirely funding a new pond outlet. They also match-funded repairs to the fountain and funded Explore Outdoors coming to Cannizaro Park, enabling visitors to explore and discover more in the park.
- Our growing team of gardening volunteers who take on a range of gardening challenges every week and always emerge victorious! Visitors regularly comment on how lovely the park looks and it is thanks in no small part to this hardy team! This year they have planted 10 new specimen trees, and a record number of flowering shrubs and perennials. They have replanted the wall bed by the pond and the long bed by the sunken garden wall. They have also planted around the ephemeral ponds, the banks of the pond and the bog garden. They care for and water all our younger commemorative trees and shrubs, have nurtured the rose garden, the herb garden, the tennis court garden, the bed in front of the hotel and the front entrance; have kept the pond weed, brambles, balsam and weeds under control, and mulched and pruned and composted to keep our lovely plants and trees healthy and well fed.
- Our incredible team of organisation volunteers who put on events ranging from tree walks and herb talks to tree bathing, plus our inaugural family pond activity day; support visits from local schools and community groups; create our beautiful and informative newsletter and Instagram feeds; capture and allow us to share beautiful photographs of the park; and ensure visitors can enjoy artistic interest from local groups in the old aviary building.
- A special thank you to our Trustee who looks after our Volunteers, Anne Peacock, who was awarded a Merton Civic Lifetime Legacy Award in recognition of over 25 years volunteering for Cannizaro Park.
- Our Dog Champions and Litter Pickers who are in the park every day to demonstrate and promote good behaviour so that everyone can enjoy the park.
- Workshop 305, King’s College School with partnership schools, Donhead Preparatory School and Planet Art for their wonderful art displays in the Aviary.
- Idverde, and especially our Cannizaro Gardeners for their support and for working with us on park projects.
- Bright Pink Agency: for their pro bono services to support our website.
- Den Anderson for organising the annual charity bridge drive that raised over £2,000 for The Friends.
- Common Works Gallery for organising the ever popular ‘Art in the Park’; a day of family friendly creative workshops and an art market
- Neighbourhood Studio architectural practice, for their development work on the new Cedar Space pavilion.
