Volunteer
The Friends of Cannizaro Park is staffed entirely by volunteers, whether that be the Board of Trustees or the many people who give their time to maintain the fabric and planting of the park.
We depend upon a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer team of helpers, and we are always ready to welcome new volunteers, whether they are members of the Friends or not. Volunteers can be any age from children upwards, and there are a wide variety of ways to contribute – from half an hour now and again, to assisting at specific events, or a more regular commitment.
Park Volunteers
The gardening volunteers are responsible for the planting and maintenance of the Front Entrance, Rose Garden, Tennis Court Garden, Herb Garden and Bog Garden, and the Stream. The team also undertakes specific projects (such as creating the Bog Garden), plants and looks after new trees, clears areas of brambles, and lends a hand whenever possible elsewhere in the park. The volunteers liaise closely with the idverde gardening team (who are employed by Merton Council). The Gardening Volunteers meet on Tuesday mornings (weather permitting) by the Aviary from 09:15 AM / 09:30 AM onwards.
Volunteers bring many skills and wide-ranging knowledge to assist our aims in maintaining and restoring the park. All are expected to attend a brief training session before starting to ensure that they are confident in handling equipment, have sufficient knowledge of tasks, and are briefed on Health and Safety. All volunteers are covered by Public Liability Insurance from Merton Council.

Organisational Volunteers
Several teams of organisational volunteers create and maintain communications and marketing campaigns and devise and run events for the park. The marketing team features an Instagram group, a newsletter team and website manager and copywriters. The events team includes volunteers who develop, organise and publicise events. While many have relevant skills, energy and enthusiasm are often enough, so we welcome those looking to expand their experience.
If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering in either of these areas, please contact [email protected] or [email protected].
